Greece: bareboats and yachts

Greece: bareboats & yachts

In Greece most bareboats and skippered yachts can be rented either in the Ionian or out of Athens in the Saronic Gulf. Indeed, these two areas are also most suitable for bareboats since the easy waters allow room for beginners mistakes and hence the whole range (from expert to novice) will be able to enjoy these tranquil seas west and east of the Peloponnese. The southern part of the Peloponnese is however very advanced and few bareboats are available out of Kalamata for instance, although this is officially also the Ionian Sea (it includes even Kythira).
With yacht charters in mind the part of the Ionian Sea that is used by bareboats extends from Corfu in the north and Zakynthos in the south, though 90% of the bareboats and skippered yachts would travel south of Kefalonia.

In accordance with flights, a good part of reliable charter companies rotate on Sundays in the Ionian instead of the usual Saturday (The rest of Greece: the whole Aegean rotates on Saturdays). Finding bareboats and/or skippered yachts for 10 days is always problematic - most companies in Greece are very strict with their rotation schemes and can only allocate for 7, 14, 21 etc day charters, but this is the same throughout the Mediterranean Sea. Expect to pay 12/14th for a 10 day yacht charter.
