Thassos - sailing holidays in northern Greece
The island of
Thassos lies just of the Macedonian coast in the northern
Aegean, here called the Sea of Thrace. It is occupied by a range of wooded hills rising to 123 metres and slashed by deep valleys. The northern and eastern slopes fall steeply to the sea; on the south and west sides the hills slope down more gradually, forming numerous deep sandy bays. The closest
yacht charter base is
Skiathos, the most important island of the
Northern Sporades. Yet, it is quite remote and difficult to include in a 7, 10 or perhaps even a 14 day itinerary from Skiathos. Thasos town offers an abundance of ancient history: town walls, temples, sanctuaries and theatres.
