The Saronic Gulf is by far the most important yacht charter and sailing area in Greece and actually the whole Mediterranean Sea. Due to its proximity to Athens and to the beautiful Greek islands as Poros, Aegina, Hydra (see map), and ports like Epidavros and Sounion (see map) it is also a important archaeogical region. The yacht charter bases in this region are Lavrion and Athens (Alimos - Kalamaki marina). The Argolic gulf to the west in this map also has a number of must-see islands and ports notably Spetses and Monemvasia and of course Navplion. This sailing area is further away from Athens and is therefore ideally suited for tranquil sailing holidays.
