The Mediterranean is a splendid sailing area not only according to many other
travel guides and tourists but also according to this travel guide to Greece, which focuses on sailing cruises in the Greek waters: the
Ionian (west Greece) and the
Aegean (east Greece). Yet, the majority of travel guides to Greece only mention the obvious destinations like Santorini, Mykonos or Ios. But when you have the flexibility of your own yacht or gulet there are also other islands which are tremendously charming: Folegandros, Sifnos, Amorgos, Andros & Tinos, Nisyros, Alonissos, to name just a few. So if you are about to use the ordinary travel guides to Greece (lonely planet, rough guide, etc.) bear in mind that these will describe only the destination that you can easily reach by ferry. On a sailing holiday you really require a travel guide either like my own sailing in greece guide or one like the
Greek Waters Pilot by Rod Heikell.
Both guides will proof very useful, especially for
bareboaters but also on
crewed or skippered charters in the Aegean or in the Ionian.
Concerning my own
travel guide to Greece: the best place to start reading is
the famous yacht charter guide.
