Yet, the court in Istanbul was totally unaware that the distant (and in those days very remote) port of Bodrum was unsuitable as a place of exile. Indeed, travellers used phrases like Arcadia, Elysium or Shangri-La, and Kabaagacli soon adapted the local lifestyle and found inspiration from the town, and particularly the fishermen.
As a companion to various fishing crews, he gradually discovered the hundreds of turquoise inlets, translucent blue bays and beautiful villages near Bodrum that are so typical for a modern Blue cruise. When befriended artists from Istanbul honoured the writer with a visit, he in turn spoiled them to the cruising lifestyle of the fishermen, and hence the term Blue Cruise was born.
