The south Ionian is larger than most sailors think and continues south of Zakynthos and actually reaches till Kythira all the way round the Peloponese peninsula, easily doubling the Ionian Sea in size. Yet, Lefkas is the primary base in the Ionian and with a typical one week itinerary in mind it is simply not feasible to reach beyond the island of Zakynthos and explore the fascinating west and south coasts of the Peloponese. Even two weeks would mean sailing long hours, yet on many bareboat sailing holidays it is worthwhile to sail two days of 60+ nm and traverse these unspoilt waters and ports starting with Kyparissia.
