The
Ionian stretches from
Corfu in the North-west to Kithera island in the south-east, and indeed the Ionian borders to the
Aegean, the
Cyclades and the
Argolic and the whole south and western coasts of the
Peloponnese belongs to the Ionian Sea!
Yacht charters predominantly take place in the western part usually out of Lefkas or Corfu. Most
yacht charter guides agree that the Ionian can be divided into three different sections.
- The North Ionian (Corfu, Erikoussa, Paxos)
- The South Ionian (Lefkas, Meganisi, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Zakynthos)
- The East Ionian or Peloponnese coast (Katakolon, Kyparissia, Marathopoli, Pylos, Methoni, Koroni, Petalidi, Kalamata, Limeni, Mezapos, Porto Kagio, Gytheio, Plitra, Elafonisos, Voie (Neapoli), Kythira and finally cape Malea)
Since the east
Ionian makes for advanced sailing, the
Ionian sailing guide to yacht charters focusses on sailing holidays out of Lefkas and Corfu only. Besides
Athens and the Saronic it is the most popular venue!
