Kalamos - as well as it's neighbour Kastos - is a delightful island just south of Meganisi and real close of the yacht charter bases of
Lefkas, Nidri and Preveza, the latter being the designated airport for these cruising grounds. Sailing Greece around these islands means loads of sun, snorkelling plus very relaxing conditions since the winds rarely exceed 4 Bft in the summer months. For learning how to sail as well as making the transition between
flotilla sailing to
bareboat sailing, these easy waters have proven to be even better than the
Saronic Gulf near Athens. Note, that dinghy experience alone isn't enough to bareboat a sailing yacht here, one needs to familiarise oneself first with manoeuvring the yacht in tight ports plus some
navigation skills are needed to avoid the abundant rocks.
