Bareboats Greece Ionian

Bareboats Greece Ionian

The Ionian Sea in Greece is often the first place where the transition from sailing flotillas to sailing bareboats is achieved by the beginning yachtsmen on holidays. The easiest sailing area in Greece are the Saronic and indeed the Ionian and therefore the flotilla fleets are located here and proof an ideal first bareboats sailing holiday as well. The “Inland Sea” near Lefkas (so-called since almost enclosed by the islands of Lefkas, Ithaca, Kafallonia, and the mainland of Greece) offers light, gentle winds with excellent visibility (fog is very rare) and short distances between ports and anchorages. For the children this area (the southern Ionian) is also perfect because of the many things to discover: medieval fortress and other ruins, caves, beaches with lots of marine life and only a few hours per day really at sea.

Bareboats can be chartered from the yacht charter bases on Lefkas (both Nidri and the Lefkas marina) and on Corfu (mainly Gouvia marina). Optionally it is possible to have an instructor on board for just the first days.

Flights are most conveniently on Preveza airport near Lefkas (short taxi ride, but the more reputable yacht charter businesses will pick you up and arrange the transfer for you) and on Zakynthos and Corfu.
It is very difficult to start a sailing holiday out of Zakynthos - due to relatively few anchorages and ports on that island it isn't a base. The yacht would have to be delivered there. Not so much a problem for skippered or crewed charters as the skipper / crew will remain on board, but for bareboats not practical.
