Yet some parts of the Aegean aren't suitable for gulets since waves and winds - especially in the main cruise season of August when the Meltemi can wreck havoc - are to dominant prevending the typical relaxed conditions a blue cruise on a gulet is famous for. Moreover the Cyclades, and in particular the fantastic southern Cyclades of Santorini, Milos, Ios, Paros, Naxos and Serifos, are therefore out of reach, also because the typical distances between these islands in the south Aegean waters are much greater than in the Carian, Lycian and indeed in the Ionian Sea out of Lefkas or Preveza (Sailing Ionian on gulets is highly recommended!). The starting ports of Syros and Mykonos are perhaps the northernmost possible in the Cyclades, but Athens is still preferred in this region. Further east the ports of Samos, Kos, Bodrum, Marmaris and Rhodes are adviced. Sailing Ionian on gulets/gullets can also refer to the Ionian coast of Turkey.
